How can the account format be changed (Dynamics GP >> Tools >> Setup >> Company >> Account Format) from 6 segments of length 6 each to 2 Segments of lengths: Segment 1 = 3 positions; Segment 2 = 4 positions. A chart of accounts was setup, and accounts established using 3 characters (and three spaces) followed by 4 characters (and 2 spaces), the remaining four segments contain only spaces.

I attempted to change the account format to 2 segments, of lengths 3 & 4, but the changes were rejected due to the established chart of accounts and entered transactions. The Chart of Accounts consists of twenty-five records.

You can do it easily with the PSTL tools and the system reconcile utility. First you need to make sure that everything you don’t want to use in the future is blank, so even if you have six segments now you need to make everything blank except the two segments that you want to remain and make sure only the characters that you want to populate have numbers in them. Then, simply run the system utility reconcile on the account for me at and it will remove all of the blank spaces

Hi MIchael,

Leslie is right.. PSTL is the free option to go to apply the changes to your COA structure.

CRG group has various add-ons for GP and one of them is called "Changer" which allows the same function, but possibly in a more fancy way & covers more modules (inventory, PA, Payroll & PM)

I haven't used this tool previously, so I am curious about when there will there be an opportunity to change the account format from the existing 6 Segments of 6 character length each to 2 Segments of 3 & 4 Character length respectively. Thank you.

Michael,

I see from your profile in Linked In that you have considerable experience in a former life as a GP consultant. Not sure if GP is core focus for NTT, the group you are with now, since on the website, seems to offer other ERP solutions and BI analytics.
