hi

not sure if there is something I'm missing, but im struggling to setup my depreciation book on my asset, to have the combination of a Full Month Depreciation Convention, and a Manual Depreciation Profile.. (it defaults to 'None' and then calcualtes it daily).

any ideas why?

    Hi James Solomon,

You refer to depreciation books that do not create ledger transactions, is that right?

If so, please check under setup - depreciation books and then through the fixed asset group button what depreciation convention has been setup to default for new fixed assets.

If your fixed asset is already setup open the fixed asset, select the depreciation book and check what depreciation convention has been setup. If this is the wrong one, change it in the setup section. This should get things fixed.

    Hope this helps,

    Ludwig

    hi Ludwig

Correct - FA books that dont impact GL.

I tried what yousaid above, and if i select 'Full Month' on the Depreciation Convention, and then select my Depreciation Profile - Selecting a Straight Line profile leaves the Depreciation Convention field as 'Full Month'.. (i have no problem with that) however, when i select a Manual profile in the cell, the Depreciation Convention automatically changes to 'None' and the system doesnt allow me to change it thereafter.

Navigating to the above screen directly from the Fixed Asset, returns the same result.

    Hi James Solomon,

I was able to replicate that issue.

Yet I believe that this is standard AX behavior.

I mean a manual depreciation profile can be specified for days, quarters, months, etc. simply by entering an interval number.

Theoretically AX could know that when you select month in the depreciation profile that one should be able to select a full month depreciation.

Yet, I don't think that the feature has been designed this way.

I guess you either try to accept this standard behavior or you need a developer to look deeper into the code and modify it for you if required.

    Hope this helps,

    Ludwig

    Thanks Ludwig

I agree with the logic, and that AX would need to ascertain the manual depreciation profile frequency, before allowing certain options in the depreciation convention drop down.

In D365FnO, Manual Depreciation Profiles continue to calculate with proration by the day.  However, if you set these three dates to the beginning of the month, then you can get a full month's worth of depreciation for the first month:

    • Acquisition date
    • Placed in service date
    • Depreciation run date
