update users from microsoft 365 takes a very long time

We have over 150,000 users in an office directory, but only 25 business central users. when we try to synch the users after assigning the license it takes over 8 hours and usually fails. Has anyone else experienced this ? 

The following screenshot is after 1 hour and only at 12k users

    Perhaps powershell is a better use case: docs.microsoft.com/.../new-navserveruser
