Cost Accounting Module

Hi all,

May I know any videos pertaining and understanding cost accounting module? Otherwise any guides I can refer to on Cost accounting. As far I learned from past experiences pertaining to Costing, they are referring to Costing Sheet for Manufacturing.

I read some article that Cost Accounting can do more than that, and it integrates well with Inventory Management especially Stock Valuation, Budget control etc.

Can someone help me to explain overview of this module and how it actually links with the respective module with Practical purpose other than Technet?

Please share and thanks in advance.

    Hi Ethan Ong,

First of all please note that the 'old' cost accounting module that is available in AX2012 will be deprecated and not be available in the 'new' Dynamics AX7/365 f.O.

The AX2012 cost accounting module is not related to the costing sheet in manufacturing. There is absolutely no connection between both.

The cost accounting module does also not integrate with the inventory management especially stock valuation.

It does, however, integrate with the budgeting module and allows copying the data from the budgeting module into the cost accounting module where the budget data can be enhanced and used for comparing with the cost accounting actual data.

On Partnersource there should be some basic training materials for the AX2012 cost accounting module that can help you getting started with this module. Other than that, there is not much documentation available.

Hope those notes help answering your questions.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Thanks Dr. Ludwig.

    Appreciate your immediate response.

Is there any blog pertaining to practical or put in practice before in any projects? As far for my past 6 years working in Dynamics AX to monitor variances such as Purchase Price, Labour Efficiency and Manufacturing variances is parked directly with BOM and Inventory Management module itself.

So any additional enlightment pertaining to cost accounting that can enhance pertaining to these variances?

    Thanks again.

    Hello Ethan Ong,

The cost accounting module does not have a direct relation ship to what is done in inventory, production, etc.

It is more like a closed module that allows you doing some additional internal calculations to calculate and allocate overhead costs between cost centers. You can also use it for calculating cost rates that are applied to transactions in order to shift costs from Department A to Department B.

In regards to the analysis of standard cost variances and manufacturing variances, the cost accounting module does not help much. Here, the standard inventory & production Reports & cubes are better suited.

For labor efficiency calculations, the cost accounting module might help, as it allows copying production hours into the cost accounting module where you can use those hours for calculating cost rates. That goes into the direction of calculating efficiencies but from your comments, I would assume that you refer to something else.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

Trying to dig out from partnersource for the training material. However if you could provide the link would be useful for me as well.
