Report Selection for 'Trading as' Companies

Posted on by 10

Hi all,

Hope you can help.

We have a company within our group that will soon have a separate division within it. So Company A will continue its current activities, but also start trading as Company B. However, both 'companies' will operate within a single NAV company as they operate under a single legal entity.

Both Company A and Company B will require different branding on their customer/supplier facing documents such as orders, invoices, credits etc. We intend to use Responsibility Centres and dimensions to identify/separate the transactions for each company.

Can anyone confirm if it is possible to have NAV select a different report number (for example, for sales invoices) depending on the Responsibility Centre involved? If so, this would allow us to either customise the content of reports for each company directly within NAV, or at least to point the NAV reports to different Zetadocs templates containing the relevant company's letterhead etc. I'm just not sure if having separate reports for the main and 'trading as' company will be possible.

FYI, we currently use NAV 2013 R2.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Best regards,

Simon

thank you for this thread, it helped me a lot with my case, it seems to be pretty similar to yours! We will probably consider the first solution to be implemented in our company.
To be honest, all these solutions are really suitable for our case, but anyway, we have no other way of proceeding. I can't believe that my company is on such an advanced level already that we're launching the second "firm", as the author of the initial post called it- company B. Last year, I have finished my studies in the field of web developing in one of the best trade schools in Florida, which I had discovered on onlytradeschools.com. My degree is now kinda doubled, so I'm looking forward to launching new projects and maybe studying again in this trade school but in an other field:)

    Thanks for the answer, Duilio.

I suspected that would be the case. An upgrade is definitely on the horizon, but for now, we are where we are.

    Thanks again for your help.

This is not possible without a customization with this old version.

Remember that NAV 2013 R2 is out of mainstream support since a while now.

Considering the future and upgrade to the latest version (Dynamics 365 Business Central 2020 Wave 1, branch 16.x) you might think the following

    a. Consider to move to SaaS by having 2 separate environment for your tenants

    b. Upgrade and stay on-premise in a multi-tenant environment

This will make it possible without special customizations and you could benefit from the latest integrations with Microsoft technlogies (e.g. you could even think of using Word Layout templates)
