We are testing multi-bin selection in one of our smaller companies (smaller number of items, bins, etc) with the hopes of rolling out enterprise wide. However, we've run into a major problem with the fulfillment process where the items in the first bin are used beautifully, but when that bin is empty, we have to manually tell it where to go look next for the item. That kind of defeats the purpose.
We use the v-Ship application for our shipping needs so when v-Ship didn't know where to go look next, we thought that was our problem and contacted our support there. Today, we received the response below which reinforces it's a GP limitation.
"Assuming we are still talking about Order Fulfillment, GP pulls automatically from the default Sales Order Fulfillment bin and that’s it. If there isn’t enough there, you have to manually specify the bin. When you use multi-bin, you generally use a warehouse system such as Collect for GP"
If we had a warehouse management system, this would probably not be an issue. However, we're not quite ready for that.
Soooooo.......is there a way for GP2010 to automatically roll over to the next bin in sequence? It just seems logical to me that, if all the programming was done for specifying and tracking the inventory by bin, there would be a way to automatically fulfill from those bins in sequence. Yes, I know my "logic" can be flawed! :)
Would be thankful for any suggestions!!
