What is the easiest way to categorize sales line items in Word Quote? It can be in the same table or by category in separate tables.
We are not using Product catalogue, instead we use only write-in products and have custom field for product type.
I'd prefer using docx (XML), but mail merge Word file is ok too.
Is there any simple app to do this?
This is for Dynamics CRM online.

I remember running into this post last year, but I thought this seemed pretty complicated to maintain. Plus, it uses Mail Merge, not Word Templates. And feedback comments were not so great ;).
I know this can be achieved with Reports but again, not very flexible (PDF Output)...
Thanks, im very surprised that this simple step cant be done, I have also been looking for a solution for this. The only similar thing I found is this solution (mscrm-workarounds.blogspot.mx/.../mail-merge-quote-grouping-products-by.html) but is outdated. If I find something I will let you know.

I understand how sorting works.
But what I need is more than that. If I have 3 categories of product on one quote, I need to have 3 different tables on the quote I print.
Table 1 for Category 1 products
- Product A
- Product B
Subtotal ($)
Table 2 for Category 1 products
- Product C
- Product D
Subtotal ($)
Table 3 for Category 1 products
- Product E
- Product F
Subtotal ($)
You need to Go to settings>>customization>>customize the system>>quote product
Click 'Save as' on the inline edit view and add your column 'category'; configure sorting on this column.
Now create a document template for Quotes
