Adding a new font to Dynamics - Invoices

We are currently in the final stages of implementing MS Dynamics and would like to incorporate our group’s font (Raleway) into the invoices generated by the system.

However, our Service Provider has informed us that MS Dynamics already has predefined fonts and cannot accommodate additional ones.

Could someone please provide us with your insight on this matter? We would appreciate any guidance or solutions you might have.

Which D365 product are you using? The D365 brand covers quite a few things, such as Finance and Operations, Business Central or Customer Engagement.

    Limitations in Business Central SaaS

In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central SaaS, you cannot upload or use custom fonts like Raleway directly in RDLC or Word report layouts. This is due to:
    • Security and legal restrictions on the cloud environment.
    • Fonts must be pre-installed on Microsoft’s servers, and Raleway is not among them.

    Workaround Options

🔹 1. Use Word Layouts with Installed Fonts

While Raleway is not supported, you can:
    • Use Word layouts for invoices.
    • Choose from the available fonts like Segoe UI, Arial, Calibri, etc.
    • These layouts are easier to customize and more flexible than RDLC.

🔹 2. Use ForNAV for Custom Fonts

If you're open to using a third-party solution, ForNAV offers a way to embed custom fonts (like Raleway) in reports:
    • The ForNAV Designer automatically embeds the font in the report layout.
    • No need to install fonts on the Business Central server.
    • Works well in Business Central SaaS, though the Web client preview may show fallback fonts [3].
Note: You must ensure you have the legal rights to use and embed the font.

    Hi there 👋

    Thanks for your question!

In Dynamics 365 Business Central, the default RDLC and Word layouts used for invoice reports do have limitations when it comes to custom fonts. However, there are a few options you can explore:

Word Layouts: If you're using Word layouts for your invoices, you can apply custom fonts like Raleway—but the font must be installed on the client machine or server where the report is rendered. Keep in mind that if the font isn’t available, it may fall back to a default one.

RDLC Reports: RDLC reports are more restrictive. They rely on system-installed fonts, and deploying custom fonts across all clients or report servers can be challenging. In most cases, RDLC doesn’t support embedding fonts directly.

💡 Alternative Approach: Consider exporting the invoice to PDF using a third-party tool or Power Automate flow that supports custom font rendering. This gives you more control over the final output.

If you're working with a partner or service provider, you might want to explore whether switching to Word layouts or using external rendering tools could meet your branding needs.

    Hope this helps!
