Import data into dynamics

Hi,

I am trying to import data into dynamics from a database.

I have created a connection on the Data Managment => Configure entity to export to database. Do I need to define the connection somewhere else?

When I go to import and I choose the database source, it doesnt let me choose table, rather just entity to load the data too.

What I am doing wrong? Do I need to define a connection string for each table? or do I need to do the steps somewhere else?

I am trying to bring data from a BYOD, but can I bring data from on-prem?

Thanks!!

I have the same question (0)

As your data needs to fit to the importing entity, I would recommend to create some views on your source database, adjust column names to entity column names, export as csv, Excel, ... Files and import these inside an Import project. You can import as many files within one import project.

If it is an recurring process you could also use data import project templates to apply.

    Hope this helps,

You can write custom code in Dynamics, or write your own standalone application that talks with the database and dynamics. I'm not saying that you should develop new applications, just discussing on general level and emphasizing that D365 can't read from an external database.

So you need some additional piece to make it happen. That piece can be human or it can be software.

Out of curiosity, since I know what logicapps are, biztalk never used it. where would you write the custom code?

I mean an integration platform such as LogicApps, Biztalk. Or some custom code.

Or, a human who will export from the database to a file, and import that file to D365.

What do you mean by "some kind of solution?"

Entity export to database works for data export (as the name suggests).

Import is also done via data entities, you can import from files by creating import projects in Data management workspace. You can't import from a database without some kind of solution in the middle.
