    Dear D365 F&O Gurus:

Please help confirm if only one Account Structure can be selected in the Budget Control Configuration - Define Parameters page?

Initially I selected Manufacturing P/L Account structure from the drop down then I defined  budget control rule by setting the criteria for this account structure.    Then I also want to define budget control rule for Balance Sheet accounts so I switch from the Manufacturing P/L Account Structure to Manufacturing BS Account Structure.  Upon doing this I got a message, that the budget control rule association with the initial account structure I selected will be deleted.

    Clarifications:

    1.  Does it mean that only one Account Structure can be selected/activated in the Budget Control Configuration?

    2.  If #1 is true and my account structure is split to BS & PL, how am going to define a budget control rule for the other account structure (in this instance - how am I going to select budget rule for BS main account & its financial dimension?

    Please advise.  Thanks.

    Hi,

You can use all of the financial dimensions that are included in your different account structures for budgeting purposes simply by selecting those financial dimensions in the budgeting dimensions setup form.

If you do not make use of the budget control configuration, there is no issue. Yet, if you plan to use budget control, then you can currently only select a single account structure that is used for this control. So you would have to decide which one to use and/or try to merge them into single account structure.

you may want to refer the below Link:

    Hi Sheela,

Thanks for this answer.  Based on these info, I have more questions:

    1.  Does it mean that I only need to select which one to use either activate Budget Control OR Dimensions for Budget but not both ?

    2.  If #1 is true and I decided to use only Dimensions for budget, this means that that budget will always be enforced for all accounts and all dimension values for the selected dimensions and 100% of budget amount is enforced based on the values in Budget Register Entry?

    3.  If I use Budget Control and not Dimensions for Budget I will be able to set criteria for which dimension values and which account and what is the budget threshold that will be controlled?

    4.  Also will it matter if I have already entered my budget amounts in Budget Register Entry BEFORE I activate Budget Control or Dimensions for Budget.  Or I must activate/setup budget first before recording budget register entries?

Just want to better understand the Budgeting module.  Thanks.

    Hi Pamski,

    You are right.

One can only select a single account structure for budget control.

If you want to have a budget control enabled for balance sheet and P&L account then you need to include them into a single account structure.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig
