Hi Usmnhr,
first of all, You need to know/do few things before doing anything (accepting that we are talking about one, single store with RMS Store Operations and not store part of RMS HQ chain, right??):
- what is the actual version of RMS You have (to be able to install at least the same version on the new PC - You can check this in Help/About option in the main menu of the RMS SO Manager) and if You are using the software in original english version
- if your RMS database is on the same (old) computer or on other, store server for example (You can check this in RMS SO Administrator, Configuration menu) and also, what version of SQL Server Express you are using
- talk to your RMS Partner (the company that implemented RMS for you) to see if you are on BREP (it will be easier to get a substitute license number)
- find all the software CDs you have (RMS install, drivers for printers or barcode readers and all external hardware that you actually use)
Now, with having all this and depending on what you've found, you'll need to:
- instal RMS SO on the new machine, with at least the same Service packs, Feature Packs or similar, as on the old machine
- Install all the external hardware from the old machine to the new one (printers, barcode readers...)
- If the database was on the old machine, You will need to make a database backup and restore it in the new machine (and install SQL Server Express) or you may want to keep the database on the old machine (as an store server for example), keep the old PC in the local network and point out to the old PC from the new with RMS SO Admin
- Copy and paste old the personalizations from the old PC to the new PC (DAT files, reports, receipts, etc., etc...) to the corresponding RMS folders
- Configure the RMS SO Administrator to point out the database
Before doing anything, I would suggest you contact your RMS partner to help You with all this. Also, do database backup ALWAYS before doing anything. Count that for the migration, youll probably need some time, so it's good to do it when the store is closed...
So, as you see, it's not difficult but not that easy, you have to have all this in mind when doing the migration to the new PC...
Hope that this helps...
Kind regards, A.
