Hi all,
The issue related the update of records using import tool is still present.
I'm looking for a solution in different forums but I haven't still found anything working.
I have read that Dynamics CRM should understand if the record has to be updated on the base of the Entity ID provided in the source file: it seems this is not right.
I get always the same error:
"A record was not created or updated because a duplicate of the current record already exists."
The system is clearly trying to insert the record, while it should have to be updated.
I tried with a simple .csv file with AccountId, Account Name, Primary Contact (I've to update the Primary Contact).
Do you have any suggestion to help me?
Thank you very much
Best regards
Fabio

You don't need to map those columns (A-B-C). They will be detected by the import tool. No need to map them.
Like Aric says: Export, make changes, reimport.
That is the best way to update records without errors!
Hi Fabio, when you export for re-import, do not make any changes to the actual file, except for the available fields that can be modified. Columns A-C contain the Guid and record information that you are trying to re-import, so converting to CSV, removing "unnecessary" columns or such, is probably the cause of your problems.
Basically, Export file, make changes, reimport file.
Hope this helps.
Fine, I'm going to try!
Could you tell me how have I to map columns "Checksum row" and "Edit date" during the import? Have I to select "Ignore"?
Thanks
Hi Fabio,
For best practices, you should remove unnecessary columns before exporting.
Also, once you open the xlsx file, do not remove columns A-B-C (they are normally hidden when you open the file). They are used by the CRM to map the records you want to update. If you remove those columns, the CRM will detect the records like new ones and that would explain the duplicate detection.
You can import NEW records with a custom file. But to update them, you need columns A-B-C in order for the record mapping to work.
Hi Yvan,
yes, I did these steps:
1) exported a view as .xlsx file
2) converted it in .csv file
3) removed columns not involved in the update
4) use the file in the import tool
As preaviously said, the "Account" column with the account GUID is present.
Sorry, why A custom cs file should make records detected as duplicates if all information are correctly mapped in the tool?
Thanks!!
Hi Fabio,
Did you previously export your account list from CRM?
If you use a custom csv or xlsx file, it will be detected as duplicates.
