VB.NET application to open GP window

Hi guys,

I'm developping an app using VB.NET and was wondering if it is possible from this app to open a known GP window... In this example, I want the user to click on a sales order number and click a button that will open the Dynamics GP Sales Transaction Entry window having the SOP number loaded.

Any hints or websites I can refer to? I've had a hard time finding pertinent info on this subject.

Thanks,
Jason Chung

    Hi Jason

If you have not already, I suggest you download the "Software Development Kit (SDK) for Visual Studio Tools for Microsoft Dynamics GP" from the CustomerSource website. This SDK will allow you to develop VB.NET dlls that can be hosted inside of a running GP session. The SDK comes with some great examples and in particular, has an example FreightEstimater project that updates fields in an open SOP transaction window.

If you want to control GP windows from outside of the GP environment, you will have to employ some programming tricks to overcome the fact that VSTools only compiles DLLs that run inside of GP. One option is to have the external VB.NET app broadcast a windows message ( or some other standard message type ). The VSTools DLL running inside of GP could listen for such messages and when received, call the command to open the SOP window and populate it with the document details.

Hope this response answers some of your questions. If you have further questions, please contact me via my web site

    Regards

    Hi Andrew,

Thanks for your reply. I do have the SDK installed and have actually found a post from 2010 with the same reflexions as I am having. I've found some interesting stuff in there and even some code samples.
