Associating an Entity record to another record of the same Entity

In essence, we're trying to associate Opportunity records to one another and see all of the related Opportunity records from any one of the records; for example:

We have records A, B, C as different Opportunities, within the Opportunity entity we have a subgrid called "Associated Records"

On record A, we add record B to Associated Records

On record B, we add record C to Associated Records

From record A, B, C we'd want to see A, B, C in the Associated Records subgrid

Is this relationship & association possible? The outcome we're looking for is to loosely associate records together and be able to see ALL associations from any one of the records; instead of having one record as a "parent" and adding children of the same Entity, we're hoping to have a very loose association because we have an OOB solution that would benefit from selecting one record and being able to see all records associated to it.

Thanks!

Not with a daisy chain as you're describing.  You'd need to link the Opps all to each other, so you'd also need to related A and C to get that view from any of the Opps.  But you could do that with a many-to-many relationship from Opportunities to Opportunities.  Then add a subgrid called Associated Opps" on your Opportunity form using that relationship and you'd be good to go.

However, there is a tool inside of CRM called "Connections".  It's designed to handle loosely coupled relationships for any kind of record to any other record.  The nice thing about using Connections is that it also lets you define why the relationship exists.  So you could not just associate the Opps together, but you could create a description of WHY they are connected.  And Connections can be designed to be unidirectional or bidirectional, so if it's really just a one-way relationship between the records, you can reflect that in a Connection.

A little more on Connections: docs.microsoft.com/.../create-connections-view-relationships-between-records
