    Mike,

it can be done via backend,

    1) backup Production company

    2) detach test Comapny

    3) attach production company to a test company

    Thanks,

    Hi Mike,

I would definitly go the KB way... detaching / attaching a production company to a Test db is only half the work done... there are several other tasks involved. The MS KB871973 explains it all.

All depends - if the test company is on the live mssql instance - a backup of live and force restore over the test database usually suffices.

Just my 2 cents, but I personally, and I stress that this is my opinion, is that I hate having a "Test" comapny located on the Production System. When I think of a test system I think of a complete test system. Different SQL Server, different install of Microsoft Dynamics GP, everything. The main reason I feel this way is that there are some things in Dynamics GP that are not stored in the company database(s), those items may be in the system database (Dynamics) or in one or more of the "DIC" files, "INI" files, etc. By having a completely separate test system the possibility of changing something in test and finding out that it also changed something in Production drops to almost zero. (If you are logged into Production but think you are in test bad things can still happen.)

There are a lot of blog post and other documentation on how to do this, but here are a few of my own. Please read all of them first and make sure to also check out all the links in those post. Here is the list in no specific order.

    Moving Dynamics - GP Databases
Synchronizing Dynamics GP Test Databases from your Production System
Resetting the users passwords after updating your test system

    Just my two cents,
