Recover RMS Keys

 Dear Experts,

For my company we purchased 150 license for Microsoft RMS POS and HQ Client. We installed about 40-50 units, but there occurred some errors in hardware and we need to replace the hardware. The problem is we dont know which key was applied to which computer.

How can we recover already applied keys (both POS and HQ Client) from the computer.
May be something from registry or may be a file from the RMS directory.

I am deeply in confusion for this case.

Please help me with this.

Thank you in advace
With rgds

John

John, Sorry, but there is no way. You can try calling tech support but there is a 99% chance they will tell you there is nothing that can be done. You may wish to contact the VAR that sold you the license keys, and have them get in touch with Microsoft Sales Ops, but even then I don't know what they will be able to do for you. At least they'd be able to give you the official options.

    Dear Ryan,

This is really messed up situation. If i use a key which is already running one unit and if I call Microsoft to reacticate the key in other unit; there will be a crash I hope.

Is there a way getting which key is used for which hardware ID from Microsoft?

     Thank you

John, There is no way to recover keys. What you will need to do is just begin activating the POS stations again using the keys you have already used. If you are required to contact Microsoft for re-activation, just explain the situation. They are pretty understanding, and considering the volume of the purchase, they probably will not give you too much grief. This time around though, I'd suggest you record which key goes where to avoid future situations such as this.
