How to reset users password from server or my own computer?

Hi

I have GP 2015. If I change user's password from our server or my own computer then they wont be able to log in. I would have to change their password on their own computer in order that they should be able to log in. Or I would have to login on their own computer from SA and ask them to change their password? Is there a way that I could change their password on my computer that they should be able to use the password and change it on their next login?

It seems that it only works when I create a new user.

Thanks,

Edrees Rohina

Thank you Leslie and Beat, when I unchecked the Enforce Password Policy checkbox in GP, then the problem got resolved. Now the user can use her credential to log into different computers without any problem.

    Hi Edrees,

Leslie is correct.. The GP user password is encrypted in the SQL server by using the server name that is in the ODBC link.. changing it from the SQL server side (SSSM) won't help, nor will it work if you reset it from another GP client that doesn't have the exact same name referenced in the ODBC link. Sometimes, IT setups an ODBC link manually to configure the GP client, and entering the IP address instead of the server name isn't the same result for GP, though technically you'll still be able to reach the SQL server..

I suggest using an ALIAS in the company DNS server (i.e. DYNAMICSGP) and also make use of the automatic package deployment for the local GP client on the workstation, to ensure the same level of configuration everywhere.

    Hi,

If you blank out the password in SQL Server (you'll need to tell the user they shouldn't enter a password), the user will be forced to create a password whenever they try to log in to GP. However, if you have a password policy being enforced on the server that doesn't allow for blank passwords, this method will not work. Of course, a user with a blank password introduces a security hole in the SQL server. Every DBA out there just had a heart attack about blanking out passwords.

I think you should be able to change a user's password from your computer provided the ODBC name you are using is EXACTLY the same as the one on the user's workstation. Capitalization counts here. You can't require that they change the password, but they should be able to log in using the one you assigned.

What error do they get when they try to use the password that you changed?

Also, you are changing them in GP and NOT on the SQL server, correct?
