Confused about portal pricing

We are wanting to explore using Dynamics 365 portals. In the applications tab of the admin center, I see that the "Portal Add - On" is not configured. I am hesitant to configure it, because I am not sure if our account will be charged or not. We only have 1 fully licensed user currently. I read that it takes 5 fully licensed users for the portal to be included, or else the portal costs $500. I know the 1 portal used to be included with an instance, but I am pretty sure have already renewed our license and so this would no longer apply to us. Is there a positive to way to tell one way or the other?
Also, is there anyway to get a trial of the portal? If I were to sign up for a free a trial of Dynamics, does that include a trial for portals?

    Hi Ben T,

A Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement Subscription with one full user license will not qualify you for a free portal instance.

It looks like the free portal instance requirements changed this month. The first included portal now requires the purchase of a minimum of ten Full User licenses of Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement Plan, Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement Business Applications.

    Adrian,

Thanks for the response. However, I am confused as you say we get 1 free portal with our Dynamics 365 Subscription, but then go onto say we need to have at least 4 full user licenses...We have a Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement Subscription with one full user license. Does that qualify us for a portal instance? Thank you for the help - I find Microsoft licensing a bit confusing, to say the least.

Also, I noticed in the most recent licensing guide, it said you need 10 full user licenses to get a portal: dynamics.microsoft.com/.../pricing

    Hi Ben T,

You can get one portal instance free of change with your Dynamics 365 subscription. You need to have at least four full User licenses (App license or Enterprise Plan licenses) to get the free portal instance. If you need additional Portals, you can purchase them at the price of $500 per portal instance.
