Animal breeding production

Dear Experts,

I'm working on a project to find solution for animal breeding production.
The production process go through a lot of phases, from female animal's pregnancy, till small animals are born, they become middle size and then become adult animals.

Customers have some requirements that I'm not sure if there are out of the box solutions to meet, or I have to customize D365 system.

- Item code changing: in one Production order, but in each phase, the item (animal) changed from new-born, to middle size, then to adult animals.
- Cost tracking per phase: users would like to track the cost in each phase, for example, from new-born to middle size.
- Fixed asset depreciation: they want to know which assets are used for the production order, to allocate fixed asset cost to production order.

I've done some testing but not yet found out of the box solutions with D365 production/batch order.

Any suggestion would be appreciated!

Uhh that's a good question. There might be some clever people over in the SCM forum.

What kind of animals are we talking about? I assume livestock judging by the phases.
Does the region mandate tagging of livestock like the European Union? E.g. are the animals serialized

I know of one ISV that deals in animal management in Dynamics, but I have no idea if they can track cost on that level.

Think I would do something like using formula production as you are mentioning, and then instead have an item for each week (E.g. week 1, 2, 3), and then run a production at the end of each week. Then have loss tracked on that production, feed, labor etc.
Some times it takes longer for animals to be ready for market, but that's kind of how I want to do it.
