Management Reporter - Data Provider Framework Error

We get the following error when trying to add a new Report Definition;

"The operation could not be completed due to a problem in the data provider framework".

This only occurs on one Dynamics GP company - two others do not have this problem.

We can create new Rows and new Columns ok in this problem company.

We have checked all the previously reported factors, such as:

GL00200 blank Budget ID, User Defined Codes for GL, ISO codes for currencies, Financial periods (for overlap or gaps) etc - all are OK.

We are using Legacy method for MR linked to GP2010.

We have checked the Event Viewer and the messages shown give no extra detail over what the error message states.

Would appreciate any suggestions on how to resolve the problem.

I know this to be an old post, but if you are still monitoring the forum, I have a question.

I have 20 plus companies and not all of them have the same Fiscal Year - some start in May, some in Nov but majority of them are Jan to Dec.

From the posting I wondering if the periods entered cover all the days of the year - do they all have to be Jan - Dec for MR to work?

    Hi Olly,

Thanks for putting me on a right direction. I had several companies, some companies were set and some are not. But Management Reporter were having all the companies. The fiscal periods for one of the non set company was not matching with other set companies. Due to which I was getting the above mentioned error.

RE: Management Reporter - Data Provider Framework Error

The problem was resolved as follows:

We first checked the fiscal periods via the Fiscal/Financial Periods Setup window within Dynamics itself – and reviewed the periods for all the years back to the beginning in 2003.

    They all looked fine.

However then we ran the SQL Script to check this same information in the SY40100 table, as follows:

select PERIODID, PERNAME, YEAR1, PERIODDT, PERDENDT from SY40100 where SERIES=0 and PERIODID>0 order by PERIODDT

The results of this script reported problems – over laps with period and invalid end dates in the 2003 year which impacted 2004 also.

We then corrected these problems – as per KB below:

871789  How to re-create fiscal periods in Microsoft Dynamics GP

    https://mbs.microsoft.com/knowledgebase/KBDisplay.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;871789

The Data Provider Framework problem then no longer occurred  - and we were able to create report definitions and run reports ok on the particular Dynamics company.

So the lesson learned here, is that the view of the fiscal period setup data in Dynamics itself may in fact be misleading – and the SY40100 table in SQL is the true view of the state of play.

    Hello Olly,

Sounds like you have tried most of the causes.  It must be something company specific.

I think running a SQL trace restricting the trace to the user you are logging into the GP company in MR with may help.  The one odd issue that stands out to me, and I cannot remember the table numbers, is a currency index was mismatched between the two tables.  One was for sure the MC40200 in the DYNAMICS DB and I'll see if I can find the other.  In my scenario the currnidx was not a viable index.  Maybe it is the MC40000 in the company DB.

    Thanks!
