Hi,

I want to create a job to get the menuitem path whether its in the main menu or not.

Like if I search for menuitem pmfFormulaAction that's a menuitemdisplay then the job should return "production control> all production order > production control > Order details> formula

You can use either cross-references or iterate through menus.

But don't assume that it'll always find one menu. Some menu items are references by several menus and some are not in any menu at all.

    Thanks Martin,

But is there any sample code or any job that you can share?

Which of the two proposed solutions are you trying to implement?

    Cross references

You can find some information in the thread getting path of menu in ax 2012.

Tried this one but it works for only those menuitems that are menus and not for those menuitems that are linked to some form.

I can't comment on your code because you didn't show it.

It's also not clear to me what you mean by your problem description. If you mean that you don't get menu paths for menu items that don't exist in any menu, it sounds like the expected result to me. What do you expect?

I don't have any code for now. The problem is that if I go for fetching the path for "all production order" then that can be done using the link that you shared as it is added to menus but if I want a path for "formula" which is another form under "all production order" then that cannot be done using the same link that you shared. How can we get the path such menuitems that are directly not added to menu. I hope the problem is clear now.

How can you get something that doesn't exist (such finding a menu item in a menu if it doesn't exist in any)? Well, I would say that it's not possible.

Or maybe you want something else that what you asked for - that's exactly why I asked you what you expected (in my last reply). Maybe you should consider answering this question...

By the way, the link I shared shows quite a few things, most importantly working with cross references that you asked for. But if your requirement is impossible, you're right that it can't be done by anything discussed there (or by anything else :)).

It seems like you want to tell where a menu item is used, despite it being in a menu or being called by a button on another form.

The only way to find this information is cross reference, there is no code that could find that information for you, because the menu item could be called by code.

Anyway, via cross reference you would find where the menu item is referenced, not the path it self. For example, cross reference can tell you that a specific menu item is called in a button within the SalesTable form, but it won't tell you the path to the form.
