Will Redirect URLs be removed with Outbound Marketing?

Outbound Marketing in Customer Insights - Journeys is set to be removed 30th June 2025, with a push to transfer to real-time. There's currently no replacement for Redirect URLs in Real-Time so what will happen to Redirect URLs when Outbound is removed? Will they stop functioning and disappear from the interface?

Will Redirect URLs be removed with Outbound Marketing?
    Hello EB-17021033-0,

You've raised a very important point about the transition from Outbound Marketing to Real-Time Journeys in Dynamics 365 Customer Insights - Journeys, specifically concerning Redirect URLs.
Here's a breakdown of the situation and what we can infer:

    The Transition:
    • Outbound Marketing Deprecation: Microsoft has announced the deprecation of Outbound Marketing, with a push to move to Real-Time Journeys. This transition is set to be completed by June 30, 2025.
    • Feature Parity Concerns: As you've pointed out, there are feature gaps between Outbound and Real-Time Journeys, particularly with Redirect URLs.

What Will Likely Happen to Redirect URLs:
    • Functionality Loss: It's highly probable that Redirect URLs, as they exist within the Outbound Marketing module, will cease to function after June 30, 2025.
    • Interface Removal: Along with the functionality, the Redirect URLs section within the Outbound Marketing interface will likely be removed.
    • No Automatic Migration: There's no indication that Microsoft will provide an automatic migration path for Redirect URLs to a comparable feature in Real-Time Journeys.

    Why This Is Happening:
    • Architectural Differences: Outbound and Real-Time Journeys are built on different architectures. Redirect URLs rely on the Outbound Marketing infrastructure, which will be decommissioned.
    • Focus on Real-Time: Microsoft is prioritizing the development and enhancement of Real-Time Journeys, focusing on real-time interactions and customer signals.

    What You Should Do:
    1. Plan for Transition:
      • Begin planning your transition away from Outbound Marketing and Redirect URLs as soon as possible.
      • Identify all your campaigns and assets that rely on Redirect URLs.
    2. Explore Alternatives:
      • Shortened URLs: Consider using third-party URL shortening services (e.g., Bitly, TinyURL) for basic link tracking.
      • Website Redirection: if the destination URL is on your own website, you can configure web server redirects.
      • Custom Tracking: For more advanced tracking, you might need to implement custom tracking solutions on your website or landing pages. This could involve using query parameters, JavaScript tracking, or server-side logging.
      • Provide Feedback to Microsoft: It's crucial to provide feedback to Microsoft about the missing Redirect URL functionality in Real-Time Journeys. This can influence their development roadmap. Use the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Ideas portal to submit your feedback.
    3. Prioritize Critical Redirects:
      • Identify the most critical Redirect URLs and prioritize their migration to alternative solutions.
    4. Stay Informed:
      • Keep a close eye on Microsoft's announcements and updates regarding the transition.

In essence, you should anticipate the loss of Redirect URL functionality and plan accordingly. It's essential to proactively seek alternative solutions and provide feedback to Microsoft to ensure your marketing needs are met in the Real-Time Journeys environment.

    Hi there!

You are right, Redirect URLs will be removed with the transition to real-time. As far as I know they will stop working with the deprecation of outbound. The table in our navigation will be gone when you remove outbound from your app.

I hope this helps you! If yes, please mark this answer as verified. Much appreciated :)
