Update managed solution successfully, but it did not overwrite customizations . . .

I have had this problem for sometime, the problem is that when I need to update my test

server with an updated managed solution, it does not take it when I select "overwrite customizations".

Those updates are very minor, things like attributes display names change, section or tab name

change, or script function reference change. I am not sure what is the problem, and sometimes

attributes on the form changed position. Both dev and test servers have RU 5 installed.

The solution that I have is to update these changes in the default solution in test server directly.

I do not like this because overtime, there will be more changes in the unmanaged solution.

I would rather keep everything in a managed solution and deploy it, even it only includes minor changes. But this seems to give me problems.

I am wondering, if anyone know the solution, or workaround ..... I believe when you select "overwrite customizations" it should overwrite any changes in the unmanaged solution, and the end result should be what you have in your imported managed solution.

It seems like you might have a problem with the solution you are using. I was able to quickly setup a test environment and the minor changes were also changed. Are you able to create a small test solution with one entity to see if you get the same results?

I recently ran into 2 scenarios where the unmanaged layer would not get updated.  Both have been confirmed as a bug and will be available in future Rollups.

There's one that should be out with Rollup 12.  The scenario for this bug is if you make a label change and try to deploy it with the same managed solution (upgrade) then it doesn't work.  If you however create a new solution with just that entity that has changed, the change gets pushed out.

One of them is due out in Update Rollup 14 and it has to do with how multiple solutions were layered.  It failed to pull the label from the correct solution.

    Thanks,

    Linna
