Went to create a new attribute today, and saw a new item "File" at the end of the list of data types.  I can't find any info on it so wondering what is it and how is it meant to be used etc etc.

I have the same question (0)

    Hi LA,

Are you working with canvas apps or flows?

Thanks for the link.  Not using it in flow or Canvas App, was in Dynamics 365  (CRM) - classic editor - and it was at the end of the data types list when defining a new attribute, I could create it, but it was not able to be added to the form etc (and no additional settings just the data type)

    Hi LA,

I think you are using D365 CRm trial version.

MSFT introduced new “File” type in Dynamics 365.

This File type is currently only on one attribute “BlobFile” on entity “Knowledge Article Image” (msdyn_knowledgearticleimage.msdyn_blobfile)

Might Not have docs on that right or there uses. But might be some providing inline image enhancement for Knowledge.

Think the first response to my original post is what we are seeing, just not an adequate announcement by Microsoft

    I can create the field::

    • In a new Trial, and
    • In a customers existing online instances, and
    • It is available a custom entities (could be on standard ones also just haven't looked).

    Server version: 9.1.0000.10733

    Client version: 1.3.2514-191119-195933

    Region .crm6

    Hi LA,

Your version is 9.1.0000.10733 while mine is 9.1.0.10129,

I still didn't find File in last of Date Type drop down list.

As you mentioned, your environment is in a new Trial,

could you share me how did you register a new trial instance?

As doc in my first response said: This topic is pre-release documentation and is subject to change.

So it might be a new feature under testing, we wouldn't need this new data type field if everything works well currently.

And due to limitted announcement of it,

I suggest you could open a support ticket for detailed anwser about the field.

    Clofly

I've just noticed this too.  We're on Version 1710 (9.1.0.10535) online, classic client.

You can't add the new file type fields to forms though either through the classic view or the model driven apps (power automate) way. ‍♂️

This field type is only usable on canvas apps for now, so we wont be able to add a 'file' field on a form on a Dynamics CRM environment.

In my opinion we should be able to use a field type field on all entities we want. I hope this feature expands in the near future.

    refer to this page: docs.microsoft.com/.../types-of-fields
