    Hi Siva,

In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance, the system requires an explicit exchange rate for:

    • Transaction Currency → Accounting Currency (this is mandatory for all ledgers)

    • Transaction Currency → Reporting Currency as well—if a reporting currency is enabled on the ledger

If either of these rates is missing, the system will not allow you to post the transaction. It does not automatically triangulate via an alternative currency in this scenario—posting fails outright when a direct exchange rate is unavailable.

Based on my own testing, I confirmed this behavior several times: unless both direct rates are defined under your selected exchange rate type, the system will block posting—even if a third currency (i.e. triangulation currency) exists.

If you find this useful please like and verify it.

    Thankyou

    Hi Siva,

This means the system can’t post the transaction because the required exchange rate for USD to GBP on the specified posting date (8/1/2025) does not exist.

    Please try below:
Go to General ledger > Currencies > Currency exchange rates.
Make sure you’re on the correct exchange rate type (“YRK” in this case)
    Add exchange rate for:
    1) EUR to USD
    2) GBP to USD
    Remove exchange rate for:
    3) EUR to GBP

In Dynamics 365 Finance, when posting transactions, a direct exchange rate must exist from the transaction currency to both the accounting currency (mandatory for all ledgers) and the reporting currency (if a reporting currency is configured for the ledger).

If either of these direct exchange rates is missing under the selected exchange rate type, the system will block the posting. It does not support triangulation through an intermediate currency in this scenario.

This behavior has been consistently confirmed through testing: both direct exchange rates must be explicitly defined—otherwise, the transaction cannot be posted.
