Hi,
Not sure of this can be done or if it is not a good idea.
The Sales folks want to rename the field 'Topic' (think it is a 'Field' rather a 'Key' or...) which appears in 'Lead' and/or 'Opportunity'. The options desired is 'Product Line' or 'Product' or...
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks,
Ashok

The schema name of the fields does not change by modifying the display name, so whatever logic existed before (such as lead subject being transferred to opportunity name) will stay as it was.
The change that you make in the display names of fields in the entities will be across the board. This mean that it will be viewed in the Forms, Quick Create and Quick View Forms, Views, Charts, etc...
Hope this helps.
Hi Aric,
Thank you for your reply. I was able to find those fields. Quick 2 questions (though your reply did answer the last piece of my original issue. and they are: 1. is it the same value which I enter at the Lead [Name=Subject (Display Name Topic), gets transferred to Opportunity to Name=Name (still the Display name Topic)?
2. If I change the Display names to something new (in both entities), will the existing records will be changed to show the new values or will they take effect for any new entries?
Thanks,
Ashok
The name of the Topic field in the Lead entity is called subject. In the opportunity entity the field is the regular name field.
Rename both fields to what you need and publish your customizations and you should be good.
Hope this helps.
Hi Francesco
Actually I did try this and check the fields for a lot of entities like Lead, Opportunity but still have not found where the 'Topic' field is.
Any clue?
Thanks,
Ashok
Hi AshokM,
please follow these step (refer to next picture):
1) Go to Settings > Solutions (or Settings > Customization > Customize the System)
2) Open a Solution where you hold the Opportunity Entity (deafult solution if you go through Customize the System)
3) Click on Opportunity > Fields and double click the Field you want to rename
4) Change the Label
5) Click o Save and Close
6) Click on Publish all Customizations
Hope it helps!

Hi Francesco,
Yes, renaming the label should be good enough, since the users (sales people) dont really care what the underlying value is as long as the label sounds/looks more meaning full. Can you please tell me where I can find this to change the label text?
Thanks
Ashok
Hi AshokM,
if you mean you want to change the "Label" of the attribute, you can do it without any problem.
Please, let me know if you solve.
