AX2009 excel import not working

I have managed to export excel file data from a table that I have created to AX via definition groups. The excel data shows fine. Then I alter the information a bit and try to read it into AX via the same definition group. This cannot be done. AX gives me an infolog which says:"0 lines imported, 1 line not imported." If I preview the line, that I am about to import, it shows all the line data properly. Any ideas why the data cannot be entered to the table?

I 've had my share of problems importing using Excel. Most of the time it's due to incorrect cell data types in the spreadsheet.  Make sure amount fields are set to numbers and date fields are set to general.

I assume you have already checked your definition group and the Import Status under the "table setup" is set to "import"; if it's set to "Imported in total" your import will not run and it will look like what you're describing.

In general here my rules of thumb when importing using Excel:

    1. Always be on the server console - I've had trouble importing through a Remote desktop connection (It's Ok to use the "mstsc /console" or "mstsc /admin" to connect using RDP, depending on your client version)
    2. Always look at the Definition group parameters, think twice about what you want to do, specially when doing a "delete and import".  Bad things happen when you delete data related to other tables!
    3. Make sure your data types are correct - Excel likes to make assumptions of the data type of the cells you're working with.
    4.  Do not try to open Excel while importing - this will cause you problems and may crash the import

Let us know how it goes.

    Good luck!

The table that I was trying to import data had property SaveDataPerCompany = No. This stops the import and gives an infolog message.

Atlas Software is a great tool for AX intergation with Microsoft Office.  It provides a terrific and easy way to upload from Excel to AX with validation.
