How to connect AX2012 with DevOps? Can we use Azure DevOps as TFS server for Version control?

Hello everyone,

My client is using both D365 and Ax2012. D365 is connected with DevOps. I just want to know that is it possible to use AzureDevOps as Version control for Ax2012 instance. If yes how to setup AX2012 Version control parameters. Or should I use MorphX and manage manual branching/ Merging.

Regards,

Khurshid Wali

    Hello Khurshid Wali,

Yes, you can use Azure DevOps or TFS. If I remember it correctly, you'll need to install a compatibility pack (for Team Explorer) and include the team project collection in URL. What is the exact version of your AX?

If you want branching, MorphX isn't an option, because it doesn't support branches.

Thank you Komi and Martin for your quick reply.

    I am using AX2012 R3 Application version: 6.3.6000 .149.

any helpful link to setup/configure DevOps and AX 2012 after installing a compatibility pack?

This compatibility pack is available with the AX2012 setup?

    Regards,

    Khurshid Wali

According to my own answer (in How to integrate my Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3 with TFS ?) eight years ago, you'll need Team Foundation Server 2010 SP1 Object Model Installer.

    Hi,
Thank you @martin, DevOps connected after installing dependencies.
DevOps is working fine on MasterVM(where Server is Installed) but not working on Terminal VM(Open with Dynamics Configuration File or shortcut)
Because the Repository folder is a local folder on MasterVM.
I tried to set up a network folder that is accessible on both servers but failed to set up DevOps.

Kindly suggest if Is it possible to use DevOps on the Terminal server

    Regards,

That's correct - you can't use a workspace that exists on a completely different machine. Using a network folder sounds like a bad idea to me and it wouldn't solve the problem, because you still wouldn't have a TFVC workspace on the other machine.

Why did you set up a workspace where you actually want it?

By the way, do you realize that each developer needs his/her own development environment? At least that's how the system is designed. Workaround exists, if you're fine with giving up some isolation and concurrency.
