The installation requirements state that Office 2003 is no longer supported with GP2010. Does that mean that if I upgrade a system that is using Office 2003 that they will loose significant functionality after upgrading to GP2010? I have a client who wants to upgrade to GP2010 - do they need to upgrade their Office version to 2007?

I would agree with Mariano. The benefits for sites with the improvements across the entire platform are huge. GP 2010 in conjunction with Server 2008, SQL 2008, Office 2010, SRS - the list goes on - gives so much scope for brilliant KPI reporting and integrated solutions that moving to this platform I think is a must for all sites. Sites that move to this now I think will easily be set up for anything for the next five years.
We have told clients that Office 2007 at least is a pre-requisite. In most cases the finance teams are happy with this because it gives them the excuse needed to get the IT department to move on the change.
Understand your frustration, but don't see this being any different than the SQL Server upgrade argument. The fact is GP 2010 has a set of system requirements and I believe every customer should consider upgrading their business solution looking at all angles, not just only the application at hand. Technology is not always cross-compatible, hence the need for system requirements.
They cannot even render or generate any of the word 2007 reports from GP without word 2007 installed on the machine. Regardless of whether or not they need to modify those template formats - you can't even generate the reports to the screen or email them wihtout having word 2007 on your computer.
Then once they are emailed - the customer/vendors must have at least word 97 on the machine to be able to view the documents.
The bottom line is this: if your client does not have office 2007 on their client machines after your upgrade to GP2010 then they will not be able to have unique independant logo's on their Invoices and PO's per company.. That benefit is only available for Office 2007/2010 users
Sad but true - most clients still run office 2003 and are not ready to upgrade their office version. This makes the benefit of upgrading to GP2010 less appealing to existing customers who pay their renewal fees every year for improvements to the GP system.. I guess office 2007 is now considered part of the cost of the Great Plains system now?
That's correct. Templates can only be modified/edited in Office 2007 or Office 2010. Customers can have whatever version installed to view the submitted documents.
Hello Paul - Unfortunatly, you are not correct about this. You cannot print the word templates with Office 2003 or the word 2007 veiwer or compatibility packs. You must have office 2007 to render the Invoices and other word templates from within the Dynamics GP 2010 application.
When the rendered word 2007 templates are emailed to a customer or vendor - then that customer or vendor would need to have at least word 97 or higher to view ir print the document on their end.
Thank you for the prompt reply! I could modify the templates for them on my 2007- This will work out perfectly for both of us! Just needed to make sure before I started the upgrade this morning.. I really appreciate your assistance Paul - Have a Great day!
