AX 2012 r2 - random client crashes

(0) ShareShare

Posted on by 505

We have been struggling with random client crashes in our AX2012 r2 deployment.   Our partner suggested we apply CU6, which we did and still have the random crashing.  We are accessing AX via W2008r2 RDS.

Perhaps someone else has had the same challenges and could lend a hand?

Here are the details :

·         The condition is that the client will hang, and may show the ‘Processing’ message, and then will crash.

·         Problem seems to be centered around a few different forms such as the purchtable  form.

For example using the purchtable form,  the condition is when the user selects a purchase order and then clicks Line Details – the system hangs and eventually issues ‘stopped working’ message :

·         This hang and subsequent client crash also occurs after the line details opens and the user makes changes or navigates through the tabs of the line details.

·         This hang occurs on different purchase orders and not always with the same purchase order.   So does not seem to be data related.

The problem from the Purchtable form is intermittent; although a similar crash is easy to recreate from the Signing Limits Policy Form :

In <company>, go to Organization >Setup >Signing limits >Signing limit policies

Highlight the <“Goods & Services”> policy and click “Edit” on the ribbon

Expand the “Policy rules” fast-tab, highlight the current effective policy (dated as of 4/24/2013) and double-click to open it

Maximize the window that pops up (for the default signing limit rules policy)

This displays the active approval limit policies for regular PR’s and supply chain PR’s. If you wait about 10 seconds, the application will crash.

Someone references a possible fix in the below link, but I cannot find the KB:

www.dynamicax.com/.../client-crashing-in-ax-2012

When the above mentioned hang and crash occurs with the Signing limit policy form (in TEST),  the following messages are being logged in the windows application log of the rdp/aos server from where the client is running:

We are having similar problems with a remote site.  Constantly disconnects users.  If nothing else I can verify other people are having this problem.  Haven't moved to CU6 yet, but 2012 CU3 was working fine.  After the jump to R2 clients always crashing.

Try reinstalling .Net Framework preferably 4.5 and clear usage data from user profile plus generate full CIL

RE: AX 2012 r2 - random client crashes

Microsoft has recently fixed a series of client crash issues in the Dynamics AX 2012 and Dynamics AX 2012 R2 clients. These were targeted fixes for symptoms such as personalization on forms that are set to pre-load and a series of WPF/GDI related errors which generally occurred on forms such as Sales Order entry with many additional fields added to the forms. The KB article for the hotfix has not been finalized yet, but if you want to obtain the hotfix before the KB article is finalized, log a support incident through your normal channels and ask for the hotfix related to KB article 2878051. Be sure to specify if you need the hotfix for AX 2012 R2 or the hotfix for AX 2012 RTM/Feature Pack 1.

If the new client/server executables in the hotfix do not resolve the issue and it continues, I would suggest opening a support request after capturing one or more crash dumps with a tool such as ProcDump or DebugDiag.

RE: AX 2012 r2 - random client crashes

Sanoop - based on the Exception code you have and the version that you are on, this is likely the same error described earlier in the chain that was fixed in the hotfix referenced above. That kernel  hotfix above is already over half a year old, so if you are going to load a new kernel you would be best off taking one of the recent kernels.

If you are using Lifecycle Services, you can download the kernel hotfix yourself by logging into a project and searching for KB 2952627 under the Issue Search tool - or simply use this link to take you directly into an existing project: go.microsoft.com/fwlink

If you aren't using Lifecycle Services yet (http://lcs.dynamics.com) then you could call into support and request that KB article or the most recent kernel build. Kevin
