Inventory Amount Minus at Inventory Value Report

Dear All,

I wondering with this case,

when my user generate inventory value. she found that inventory amount is minus.

what is the root cause for this issue ?

Thanks, need your advice, really appreciate.

    you need to review your transaction firstly to compare transaction with inventory value report.

    Dear Benjamin84,

    Could you please go to Inventory management -->Setup-->Inventory-->Item Model group.

    If you have checked the Negative Inventory as show in below image.

    Then System will allow to create the sale order of the item and the inventory will be negative if you don't have inventory.

    first bring the inventory in Positive then unchecked the negative Inventory. So that it will  through the warning message.

    Hi benjamin84,

    A negative inventory value in $-terms is in general not wrong and can be cause by price fluctuations and the inventory closing process. However, in your case, the negative value seems extremely large.

    Can you let us know what the RM-3P resource group represents?

    (item, human resource, dummy item, etc.)

    Can you identify the item that is responsible for this large negative amount?

    We can't see it from your Excel sheet where only the total of the resource group is shown.

    Yes, I checked and found that financial negative inventory ticked.

    so, its because there are sales order and I don't have on hand,

    that the root cause of this minus value ?

    yes, I checked in my set up like Goutham said, because the financial negative inventory was checked

    Right now, the negative amount decreased, my company currently doing monthly closing, don't know yet if the decreased amount came from monthly closing.

    Could you give me solution, where I should check

    Hi benjamin84,

    Can you investigate the item transactions for the PBW56 item?

    What is that item used for? (It is a raw material that is used in production, is it a finished item or is it used for subcontracting processes?)

    Can you identify the item transaction that is mainly responsible for that large negative amount?

    Hi Ludwig,

    The item used for production.

    Purchased in Uom Kilogram, and receipt in pcs.

    we already have uom conversion. it should be no problem right.

    but I don't know why right now the inventory amount is minus,

    we currently plan to create new one, and adjust the old one with minus quantity.

    Hi benjamin84,

    I see.

    Before creating the new item and before adjusting the negative amount (=> I think the amount is positive but the value negative from your screenprint above), please do some further investigation on that item to ensure that you won't see the same issue with your newly created item in the near future.

    If I read your screenprint correctly (positive quantity and negative amount), please be aware that adjusting the negative amount to $0 will create a profit in your P&L statement. Because the negative amount is huge, I would recommend that you test such an adjustment first in a demo environment and discuss the outcome with your cost controllers/accountants.
