Hello:
In order to allow for our sales team to enter a string of 16 digits into the "Phone 3" field of Customer Maintenance, my predecessor opened Modifier and modified the keyable length and formatting for Phone_Number3 In the "Resources...Data Types" section of Modifier.
Specifically, in the Format Strings area, he removed the current format string of Phone_Number 3 and changed the keyable length from the default of "14" to "21".
So, whenever we use SmartList Builder to create a SmartList containing "Phone 3" and export the Phone 3 data from SmartList to Excel, the final and sixteenth digit of "Phone 3" is replaced with a "0".
The only way to accurately export Phone 3 data to Excel is through Excel Report Builder.
Is there a way to somehow fix this in SmartList (or SmartList Builder) to where the "0"' can be eliminated and the correct final digit appear?
Thanks!
John

Hi John and Leslie
You might find the following information interesting as it allows you to reformat the phone numbers in Smartlist.
How to change the telephone format for SmartList and for Letter Writing Assistant in Microsoft Dynamics GP by using Modifier with Visual Basic for Applications

Also, if you don't want padding with zeros you can change the formats to pad with blank rather than zero using modifier.

Hi There, Leslie!
Thanks, for testing!
Based on your observations, there is something important that I should point out. The dex.ini file of our GP installs has the following switch in it, to make SmartList exporting be faster than "normal":
SmartlistEnhancedExcelExport=TRUE.
I did not put this in. My predecessor did. Unfortunately, sometimes having this switch is necessary when you have a lot of data to export, on a regular basis.
But, as you know, this switch has side effects. In fact, one of them is that if you export a serial number and it is longer than 15 characters, SmartList replaces positions 16-20 with 0's. The fact that Phone 3 is greater than 15 characters is likely what's coming in to play, here.
Oh, well. It sounds like I'll have to use Excel Report Builder, then. Don't get me wrong. I like Excel Report Builder. But, some DBAs have concerns about granting additional permissions to end users through SQL. I think this will be okay, though.
Thanks, again!
John
Hi John,
I changed the keyable length of Phone 3, removed the format string, and created a SmartList Builder report. I then opened and exported it to Excel, it ,of course, exported perfectly. Just for grins I did the same thing except only I used the Native SmartList Designer and there was no problem. I am using GP 2015, so maybe it was a problem that got fixed.
Kind regards,
Leslie
