All,
We are on SQL 2012. The GP database is set as a full recovery model. We make transaction backups every two hours. We make a full backup every night. About one month ago I noticed the log file was 55 GB! When I went in to shrink the file the free space was at 99%. I shrank the file and released unused space and the log file returned to a very small size. Once a week we (not sure who set this up) are Rebuilding Index's, Updating statistics and running a cleanup via a maintenance plan. The process makes the log file of the database increase to 20 GB. Again most of this is free space so not sure what is going on here. I have found various recommendations for sql maintenance but none of them seem to address this kind of issue. I am not a DBA and the client insists we manage the databaaes and sql. I really need a guide for what to do around the whole backup and maintenance process from a beginner point of view.
Thank you
