D365 Finance and Operations - Posting Layers

Hello everyone,
 
I would like to know if the "Posting Layers" are only about categorizing posted financial transactions or does each layer have specific calculation logic within? 
 
Why should I choose, for example, a "Custom Layer 5"?

    Hi,
     
    There's no logic within a layer. The layers "enable organizations to segragate transactions based on predefined criteria" (quoted from the blog below).
