Microsoft Dynamics GP (Archived)

Security

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I am rebuilding my security in GP and I am getting an error during testing when logging in.  The test user gets to the "Welcome to Microsoft Dynamics GP" window and enters their credentials.  The system then logs them in and you see the dialog boxes that say "Initializing Microsoft Dynamics GP" and then "Applying Personal Settings" and then I get the error:  "You don't have Security Privileges to open this window.  Contact your system administrator for assistance."  Then it goes and opens the home page.

The window that it can't get to has to be the Company Login Window right?  How do you give access to this?  I don't see it in the System Windows or Company Windows.

Also, I added back the Default_User task to the role this user has and still got the security error!!

Thanks!

    RE: Security

    Sorry, no this doesn't ring a bell to me.. but I ran a quick table search against the DYNAMICS and a company DB and found out that this actually exists..

    The table sits in the DYNAMICS DB as part of the 'Advanced Go Tos' product that was part, if I'm not mistaken, of eOne's Extender product... Extender being no longer part of the GP installation DVD, you need to get this from eOne Solutions if your still licensed for it.

    Display Name Technical Name Physical Name Group Display Name Group Technical Name Dictionary Name Series Name Dict. ID Series Res. ID
    Special Go Tos Special_GoTos GOTO100 Advanced Go Tos System 4612 7 22001
    Special_GoTo_Fields Special_GoTo_Fields GOTO200 Advanced Go Tos System 4612 7 22000

    Hope this will help you to narrow down the security issue..

    Edit: correction : Advanced Go Tos was part of the SmartList Builder series from eOne, not Extender.

    Does that mean anything to you?

    Hi Bo,

    2 questions :

    A: is that GP client installed locally on the computer ?

    B: is the GP client's settings marked as to run with 'Administrator privileges' ?

    GP needs to be able to write to the Program Folder when it starts and closes.. you may receive an error message if you don't grant the 'write' permissions to a user for GP.

    My next suggestion is to enable the DEX & SQL Trace in the DEX.INI file and see if you can spot an error message right after the user gets the pop-up on screen..

    SQLLogSQLStmt=TRUE
    SQLLogODBCMessages=TRUE
    SQLLogAllODBCMessages=TRUE

    I created a new user and gave it Security to the Default User task and still got the error.

    Hi,

    What is the role has been selected for this user.  Have you created a new user and tried the same access and checked and see whether you get the same error.
