Hi all,

I'm starting to learn to use the ER tools. Anyone can help to explain what is the use of Configuration Provider ? in 'user friendly' way.

I'm using this reference :

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/fin-ops-core/dev-itpro/analytics/tasks/er-configuration-provider-mark-it-active-2016-11?toc=/dynamics365/commerce/toc.json

but a little explanation of the purpose there and what to key in to be exact in my environment.

Thanks

I have the same question (0)

    Hi,

I believe when you create your configuration, the configuration provider can be linked to LCS project where you can upload your customized ER configurations.

While existing providers contain a list of our of the box configuration which you can import in your current environment and you can start using it e.g. BACS, payment model.

    Thanks

    Hi,

but how if I started in VM, means it is onebox, we 're not connected to LCS in onebox,, right ?

    Thanks,

    Hello WWong,

You need to create your own configuration provider is you want to make modifications to the standard MS electronic reports. The modified ones are saved under your configuration provider and easily allow to share them and identify what has been changed compared to what has been delivered by MS.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig,

Noted, any good reference that provide a clear step what to do, from configuration and usage, but without LCS involved ?

So, for starter and try out, I just create new Provider with the URL is my VM machine, then :

    1. Go to Reporting Configuration tile

    2. Create new configuration, choose ROOT then named it.

    3. On that new configuration, click Designer

    4. Create New, choose Model Root, and give name.

Up to here then not sure what to do. I've read Microsoft Docs, but again 'they' failed me to know what exactly I need to do, to make a simple thing.

    I also follow this blog:

    alfapeople.com/.../

but at the part of Data Model, somehow also I didn't understand what's the meaning of all that.

    Please help.

    Thanks.

    Hello WWwong,

Here is a video that shows how one can share electronic reports that you created with your configuration / -provider

    dynamicsax-fico.com/.../

If you need additional examples then have a look at the other videos shared there.

I posted a lot about ER and what you can use it for.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

In configuration provider you create a repository which connects to LCS. Once that is successfully configured you should  be able to directly access the GER configuration resources from the project’s asset library from within D365FO. On top of this, you can also directly share your custom configurations into the project’s asset library from D365FO.

    Hi Sukrut,

Meaning to say, it has to connect to LCS ? cannot work without LCS ?

    Thanks,

    Hi WWwong,

You can have a configuration provider that has no link to LCS if you wish.

That is an option that you can make use of.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

Configuration provide is not connected to LCS but the repository  for the configuration provider is . You can create configuration provider  without any repository  connection to LCS and still import  report configuration in your configuration provider

    Hi WWwong,

Is there any other information you need from the community or has your question been answered?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig
