How to re-import a bacpac backup into BC Saas?

Posted on by 180

I have found a lot of tutorials about how to export a backup of a BC Saas system to a bacpac file. I have also found some descriptions of how to import this backup into a local SQL server or into a On premise BC.

But I don't see any real description of how to "simply" re-import the bacpac into A BC Saas.

In documentation I can see "you must go through the same steps as you went through to migrate from on-premises to Business Central online.", but what does this actually mean? I hope I don't have to import the bacpac into a BC on premise and then migrate it to BC Saas from there?

Kind regards

    Hi Steven

I'm a customer not a partner, so this is not the answer i want to need :-)

But I think you gave the answer to my question: To import the bacpac in to BC Saas, I must first import into BC On Premise and then migrate from there.

Or I can call the re-selling partner assigned to my account and pay to get my company moved to another tenant.

I think I will then have to go for the 3rd option to migrate from Saas to Saas via Configuration Packages and Excel.

    Best regards

    Thomas

The .bacpac export, restore local, upload to BC Saas might be a solution for that, however, you can also ask support to do this I think:

    Hi Steven

    Thanks for this info.

I have a BC with multiple companies, and now I need to move one company to an other Azure Tenant.

It seemed to me to be a simple task to perform via a bacpac, but maybe I was wrong.

    Best regards

    Hi,

I think this is an unsupported scenario.

What they mean is indeed to import it On Prem and then to run the Cloud Migration tool to get the data in BC Online.

Why woud you want to restore the bacpac file to BC Saas? Because in the Admin Center there's a  standard possibility to do a restore to a point in time, from a recent backup:
