Microsoft Dynamics GP (Archived)

I'm trying to install the Dynamics GP-Education version on a Windows 7 64-bit workstation and keep getting the following error when trying to attach the database... "THE DATABASE SETUP HAS NOT BEEN COMPLETED FOR MICROSOFT DYNAMICS GP. USE MICROSOFT DYNAMICS GP UTILITIES TO COMPLETE THE DATABASE SETUP BEFORE STARTING MICROSOFT DYNAMICS GP".

However 1. I don't have that same issue on Windows XP and 2. I can't see anywhere you can launch the utilities.

Finding support for the education version is extremely difficult as it installs differently than I imagine the regular version does. It's a self contained install that connects to a locally installed 2005 Express server and loads the databases from an .mdf file.

Hi - Look in the GP application folder (probably something like c:\program files\microsoft dynamics\gp\)

    Find 2 files:

    dynutils.set

    dynamics.exe

drag and drop the dynutils.set onto dynamics.exe.

(Or click on Start >> Programs>> Micosoft Dynamics >> GP >> Utilities)

This will launch Dynamics Utilities. As long as this is an evaluation version etc...work your way through the utilities windows (this will check the data files against the version of GP you have installed and upgrade the data if requird etc.). Eventually you will get to a window from where you can Launch Dynamics GP. do so and see how you get on.

You have UAC turned on. Disable User Account Control and this message will go away.

After multiple installs I finally got it to work. Apparently you shouldn't pick Canada as the country you're in when doing the install but must pick the Unitied States. Also if you plan to use another directory other than the default one in the install directory you have to give NETWORK SERVICE rights to the directory you put your data files in.

Yes, that would explain the message about utilities. I don't think running utilities would have sorted it out though. Nicely done on finding the issue and updating the post.
