Multiple delivery methods like boat and air in master planning

Hi,

We have multiple factories which we need to supply from our central warehouse. Some vendors cannot supply enough to put the parts on the boat with a transfer of 10 weeks so we do air shipments. How can we setup the MRP to differ between air and boat transfers automatically?

Sorry Ulti001, I'm confused about vendor lead times and transfers. Are you talking about the lead time into your central warehouse (in which case these are vendors in the sense that you are raising purchase orders on them), or is it the time from your central warehouse to your various factories (in which case I assume these vendors are transport companies).

Lets ask it different. Vendor A parts are too big and expensive to ship by air. They should go by boat. How can we define that to the MRP so that we calculate and firm them according to delivery method?

Also how to transition from air to boat and backwards.

You can set the lead time on the item; options 1., 2. or 3. here:

Or, if the item can be purchased from more than one vendor, you can configure AX to look at the lead time on the purchase trade agreement line instead.

Great. That is the purchase lead time for the warehouse in Europe where we do the quality check and then ship them by air or by boat to the US. How can we define the transport days per item?

If Vendor A always ships by boat then it would be the trade agreement, but you do not have the option for planning to "plan" by a delivery method and then plan the lead time, it can only react if you have a vendor that should supply by air but then confirms a method and date that is boat orientated, then planning reacts and tells you it will be late - planning cannot tell you when and by what method.

    Hi Ulti001,

If you are using MRP to create orders for an item which you buy into one site and transfer into another, I imagine you are already using the 'Item coverage' functionality on the item. In this case, you could set the Transfer Lead Time on the Item coverage record that relates to the transfer into your US warehouse.

I think this would only work for you if you always transferred each item by only one of the two methods.
