How do you undo an edit?

I am playing with GP to decide if we want it. I was editing in the Item Price List Maintenance window and made a change and decided not to commit the change. I tried to close out the window, but the only options I get are to SAVE and CANCEL. I want to discard my changes. I tried to do some research on the issue and the only thing I found was over 2 years old. It stated that changes are written directly to the tables and not to a transaction file. Is that still the case now? If not, how do you undo an edit? Are all transactions done this way in the rest of the system? ie Customer Orders, Purchase Orders, Shipping, etc.. Thanks

Yes, for the most part there is no 'discard my changes' or 'undo' in GP.  Here are links to some additional information about this topic:

I noticed that some screens give me the option to discard changes, for example Customer cards, Address cards, Item cards. Is there a general rule that applies as to which screens update the data table as you enter the data? I do not have enough example data setup in the TWO database to test out all the screens. I see POs are live, Price Lists, Sales Transactions and a few others. Do admins find that their users are deleting alot of records? At the moment, GP is looking like an admin nightmare with having to retrieve past data to correct mistakes of the users since they can't undo.

Generally, master data entry can be 'undone', transactional data cannot.  There are exeptions to the rule however.  Read the 2nd article Victoria posted the link to above.  It gives a good overview as to why this is.

I've been using/consulting on GP for over 10 years and I act as a part-time system admin for a few clients.  I've never experienced the need to go in and 'undo' transactions performed by users.  With reasonably good training, users figure out what they can and can't do transactionally.

    Hope this helps,

Thanks for the feedback. One thing we were looking at is all of the users out there and wondering how this effected them. If it was that bad, there wouldn't be that many users was the logic. I was thinking it would be a matter of time for most people to figure out what they can and cannot do, but then I think about some of the other users and I dread it all. lol.

Valid point.  What we typically see is a combination of user training and security.  If you've got users who should not be changing data, don't even let them into the window.  Most data is available in inquiry only windows or reports.  If you trust users to change data and give them access, they need to take responsibility for the changes they are making in the system.  Will mistakes happen?  Sure.  Can you prevent all user mistakes?  I don't think so.  Do we get a lot of support calls because users changed something and are not able to undo the change?  Not at all.
