convert project/solution from VS2015 version to VS2017 version

Hi,

We have our extensions developed in a visual studio project that is there in TFS.

As we are now moving to 10.0.19 version soon, we will have VS2017 for development of these extensions instead of VS2015. We will need to migrate VS project/solution to the new version.

Is there any microsoft documentation available for migrating such Dynamics Projects/solution ?

What all things needs to be taken care of while doing this upgrade of solution?

I have the same question (0)

I don't remember running into any problem that would require extra steps. Simply open the project in the newer version of Visual Studio and it should work.

    Hi IamVikky,

As Martin has Mentioned, Simply open the project in VS2017 should work.

Please see the following documentation for instructions on migrating your existing projects to VS2017.

    Hi Vikky,

Like mentioned above, just continue with the solutions/projects in VS2015. You only have to be aware that the folder where VS projects are stored is different in VS2017. You can either leave the current projects in the current directory or move them also to [User directory]\source\repos.

Note that the default project location is configurable (Tools > Options > Projects and Solutions > Locations > Projects location).

    Hi André,

Exactly that was my worry, that we need to save the new Project/Solution somewhere and check-in  that in TFS.

As Martin and Judy mentioned, I will try to just convert it into VS2017 by opening it and see how it goes and will save at new location.

From the past .NET experience, I remember we used to make few tricky changes while doing this project/solution conversion activity. But it seems, for D365FO, it might have been made easier by MS.

Big thanks to all of you for taking time to reply and guidance.
