Check alignment is no longer correct

When we first started 6 months ago, our paid consultant created a modified form to use when we print checks.  It was set up to align perfectly with our check stock.  That is no longer working, it appears to have gone back to the original setting; therefore, the alignment is no longer working.  Only changes I know of is we added new computers and users.

    Hi Tim,

Is one of the new users printing the Checks? If so, then it could be a user security issue. Make sure they have access to the Modified check form. Also verify that they are pointing to the correct reports.dic in the dynamics.set file that they use.

If you log in as one of the original users - doe the checks print out OK?

Did you change your printers or update drivers for your printers?

If so, and the basic data on the form correct,  - it may just need tweaking of the report layout.

Thanks for the info Ian.  Yes the orignial users are having the problem too.  We did have our printer worked on last week so we're checking to see if they did anything with the drivers - thanks for that suggestion.  How do I check what reports.dic we're pointing too?

    Hi Tim,

    1. Right click the Icon you use to launch GP and select Properties.

    2. In the Target field you will see something like "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics\GP2010\Dynamics.exe" Dynamics.set.

What you are looking for is the location of the Dynamics.set file you use. In the example above - it is stored in the same place as the Dynamics.exe file - which is my C Drive. But you cold have a Target like:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics\GP2010\Dynamics.exe" \\servername\foldername\dynamics.set which tells you that the Dynamics.set file is stored in a folder on your server.

Whatever the case might be - go to the location and right click the Dynamics.set file. Choose to edit / open it in Notepad.

Scroll down until you see the word 'Windows'....you are interested in the path file lines after this. Specificially you are interested in the thrid line after this - which tells you where the reports dictionary that you are accessing when you launch GP...is stored.

    :C:Program Files (x86)/Microsoft Dynamics/GP2010/IFund.dic

Looking at your issue - if nothing else has changed - its probably the work that was done on your printer.

I would print out a sample check (or print out an alignment form) on the thinnest blank paper you have. Then hold it over your check stationery so that you can see how much out of alignment it is. Then make a backup of the Reports.dic you are using. Then go into GP - and click on Tools >> Customise >> report writer. It will be fairly obvious which report is the modified check report. Open this andlocat the fields in the report that are out of alignment. 'Play' with these - i.e. use trial and error to get them aligned with the printed check report.

Or - ask your GP Partner to do this for you if you're not up to speed with report writer.

    Ian.
