Upgrade to 2016 from 2015

Hi All,

I need to update CRM from 2015 to 2016.

How to do the impact analysis on the existing implementation for this upgrade. Is there any MS documentation for the things to take care before the migration.

Any help on this would be helpful.

Thanks,

Dilip

    Hello Dilip;

There are a few things to consider. First are you guys doing a in place deployment or is there a new environment your bringing it into for CRM 2016? I'd recommend reading over the following:

    technet.microsoft.com/.../hh699790.aspx

    www.microsoft.com/.../get-ready-for-the-next-release.aspx

    technet.microsoft.com/.../hh699658.aspx

    Hi Dilip,

Is it an upgrade from 2015 or 2015 Update 1? If it's from 2015 one of the main new differences will be turbo forms, this could impact your deployment if you have custom JavaScript:

    community.dynamics.com/.../turbo-forms-get-your-javascript-ready-for-crm2015-update-1

With regards to unsupported customisations, the indications are that there are no changes from 2015 to 2016:

    community.dynamics.com/.../187291

2015 Code Validation Tool info: blogs.technet.microsoft.com/.../just-released-custom-code-validation-tool-for-microsoft-dynamics-crm-2015

Do you have any other 3rd party addons/integrations? In that case check to make sure they are compatible with 2016.

It looks like you've tagged this for CRM Online, so another recommendation would be to copy your Production instance to a Sandbox instance, upgrade the Sandbox and perform testing in that instance before applying the Production upgrade.

    Hope this helps,

    Sean

    Thanks Jason,

We already have a live online MS CRM 2015 environment update 1. Now we need to upgrade to 2016. I will go through the links you have provided.

    Hi Dilip

I would take a look at SureStep to guide you along this path, especially the Upgrade Assessment Decision Accelerator found under Solution Envisioning. There you will find a document called the Upgrade Assessment Delivery Guide which will guide you along the path of determining if you need to do a Technical Upgrade or a Major Upgrade. There is one for CRM Online and another for on-prem.

You can access SureStep online here -  mbs2.microsoft.com/SureStep

Or download the offline version here - mbs.microsoft.com/.../MSDSureStepdownloads

I think you need a CustomerSource/PartnerSource account for either of them from memory.

    Regards

    Brad
