Please let me start by apologizing that I am an AX neophyte. I am an Engineer that has been given the task to migrate a server where our AX Production farm saves data. Current server is a Windows 2003 (FILES2) server that is EOL. I have a new server Windows 2008 R2 (FILES3). FILES3 is ready to go and the idea of the PM was to rename FILES2 and rename FILES3 to FILES2. The AX configuration has settings that point to FILES2. No one knows where all these settings are. In the past an old AX version farm server was changed and it caused a month of errors before everything was stable. I was not involved in this process and unfortunately no one documented the process. I know this is a long shot. Can anyone give me some ideas how to change the AX configuration best practice and not band-aid fix?
