Sales Credit Memo Data Migration

Hi all,

I am having some trouble bulk migrating Sales Credit Memo documents into Business Central from another system.

I have created a number of header documents (so they all have a number series reference assigned to them) and I was going to use the Edit in Excel for the lines but it's not available in Sales Credit Memo like it is in Sales Invoice.

So I am now using configuration packages. But a couple of strange things happened:

When I did my first import into Sales Credit Memo Lines (table 115) it said there was no header record in table 114 for that reference number. I thought that was odd seeing as I do have headers sitting in the Sales Credit Memo screen.

Nevertheless, I added one to table 114 and re-processed table 115. It accepted with no errors, and I applied the data. However when I open up that credit memo on the screen there is no line data for it.

So I'm a bit perplexed as to why the config package isn't applying/working properly - is there some trick I am missing? Furthermore, what is the best way to get this data in the system if not through config packages?

Thank you.

RE: Sales Credit Memo Data Migration

    Hi,

if this Sales Credit Memos are not posted then you should import your data into tables 36 (Sales Header) and table 37 (Sales Line). After that, you should post credit memos to get posted documents together with ledger entries.

If you are importing directly into tables 114 and 115 then when importing table 115 with configuration package you should specify document number and line number (Line No. field which goes 10000,20000,30000,...) . My suggestion is to go with standard unposted sales credit memo in tables 36/37 and then Post sales credit memo to get posted sales credit memos.

    Best regards,

    Renato

Hi Renato, thanks for that. I tried like you suggested and it worked so I will continue with that method. So tables 36 & 37 are kind of like a work table? You start there with a sales document of any kind, then it populates the specific document type header and line tables after you post, then it clears out 36 & 37?

    Hi,

yes, tables 36 and 37 are unposted tables in Sales module. After you completelly post document it will delete records from tables 36 and 37 and creta records in other tables, for example 114 and 115 for Credit memo.
