after creating new custom views, is there a way to delete views that are either incorrect or no longer needed

Yes you can delete the public and personal views.
Settings -> Customize the System
select the entity and then views. Select and delete it.

is this for an admin or just a user? I am the user (without admin rights) and want to delete my own personal views.
You have to use Advanced find to delete it.

If you shouldn't have delete rights as a user, you could at least deactivate them
