SQL requirements for Dynamics GP Subscription model

I understand that when purchasing the on-premise version of GP there is the option of buying the inexpensive run-time version of SQL that only works with GP, or a customer may purchase a full version of SQL. But what about a client getting the subscription version of GP? I don't see a subscription version of the runtime version of SQL, nor any indication that SQL is bundled into the GP subscription price. Hosting companies typically provide SQL, but what if the subscription version of GP is run on the client's own PC or in Azure? Can someone getting the subscription version of GP also purchase the run-time version of SQL and have them work together? I've been searching and cannot find a clear answer on this.

Unfortunately not. With the subscription license you don't get a similar inexpensive option. You'll have to buy the SQL license separately.

Subscription model by definition would mean it is hosted. You would not be running it on premise. You are paying for the entire package in your subscription fee. You pay for the OS, SQL and GP as a package deal. Now if you are simply paying for a hosted server then you purchase whatever you need and install everything yourself just as you would if the server was onsite. The runtime version of SQL for GP is restricted to only GP related databases. When you purchase via subscription pricing, the hoster will have the OS, SQL and GP ready for you as part of the package price.
