MANUAL JOURNAL ENTRY SKIPPING NUMBERS

(0) ShareShare

Posted on by

I noticed that the past couple days, when I post a manual journal entry in Great Plains, it does not issue a journal entry number in the correct sequence.  For instance, the AJE #s were up to 29726 yesterday, but today I posted 2 entries that came out as 29706 and 29709.  I am worried there is a problem.  Please advise

If you go enter a new journal entry do you get 29712? Do you have multiple people entering J/E's? If you were up to 29726 yesterday and now you are back to 29712 there may be an issue.  Every time you post anything to the ledger each transaction will get a new journal number. If you run a journal entry Smartlist  what is the highest journal entry number?

One thing to consider is that if you have created - but not posted - JE's then the system has allocated them and so the counter moves forward.

If after the fact you remove the JE for any reason a hole is created in the count sequence.

Correct me if I am thinking incorrectly, but does the system not then go back and 'reclaim' those unused JE numbers - so it looks like it is going back, when in fact, it is only picking up the missing numbers that were not used.
