how to budget for sales units?

My executives would like me to start giving them reports on budget vs actual sales unit quantities. What would be the simplest way to achieve this? i have thought maybe using a unit account, but I am worried about closing a year end with these and since our items never change, I cannout setup new unit accounts next year.

You can enter budget quantities for unit accounts.  Closing the year does not affect unit accounts.  The unit balances roll forward to the new year.

I just realized that I would not be able to enter these as unit accounts because of the account structure. Our Item numbers look like 0503-90 and our account Numbers look like 2000-000-8700-000. There would be no way for me to relate these two. So any other suggestions on how to accomplish this?

    Hi Karlie.

A few options other than using the financial reporting functions are available to you.

You ncan have your budgets on an Excel sheet and if you have Excel Report Builder you can build reports that contain the sales data.

You can then easily build reports or pivot tables to give you the information you are looking for.

You can also use FRx and link Excel sheets for reporting data.

You should also have access to the reporting tool FRx Forecaster that you may want to investigate.

Don't know if your budgets are periodic or cumulative - but using Extender, (if you have it) can also be used for input of the budgets on a product basis. This will then require SQL views to extract info, but it will open SQL reporting services or Crystal or even Access tools to build you report.

The reason I propose these is that there is no automatic posting to units accounts so actual units sold would need to be entered as journal entries manually.

    Hope this helps
