CRM 2015 on-prem, Exchange Online, and Server Side Sync

We are migrating from Exchange 2010 on-prem to Exchange Online. We have a CRM 2015 on-prem installation. I'm having trouble finding supported configuration information. I just want to know if i can setup server-side sync with crm 2015 on-prem and Exchange online.

It seems that as of December 2016, Microsoft changed something and now perhaps CRM 2015 on-prem & Exchange Online is a supported configuration for server side sync. Can anyone confirm this? What's confusing is that most of the documentation says "Applies to Dynamics CRM 2015" but then you click on the actual link and it just says "Dynamics CRM 2016" or "Dynamics 365". It's very confusing. Here is what i've found so far: This technet article lists the different ways to configure server side sync and it lists "Dynamics CRM 2015" at the top. However, the link for "Connect Dynamics 365 (on-premises) to Exchange Online" says it only applies to "Dynamics 365 (on-premises), Dynamics CRM 2016". So which is it?

Hello mkeller, did you find a solution to this? My company moved to Exchange online and now I have the problem you wrote about.

I've been able to set a single test user to validate server syde sync with a new server profile, the test and validation process succeed and he received the confirm email, but after that I don't know how to make Outlook 365 recognize it and show CRM buttons

Based on the following article, Server Side Sync is not supported for CRM 2015 On-Prem and Exchange Online:

    technet.microsoft.com/.../dn531050(v=crm.7).aspx

You should be able to use email router, but I didn't completely check that.

    Hope this helps.

Yup, this.  Hybrid deployments were added with 2016.

Thank you for the quick response Wayne. We seem to able to get the "CRM 2015 on-prem with Exchange Online" to working with Server Side Sync, without the Email Router. But the Mailboxes frequently gets disabled due to some errors. Following are the errors we encountered:

    • The mailbox can't synchronize appointments, contacts, and tasks because the location of the mailbox can't be determined
    • The mailbox has been disabled for synchronizing appointments, contacts, and tasks due to an unexpected error => Email Server Error Code: Web.ServerProtocolViolation
    • Appointments, contacts, and tasks can't be synchronized for the mailbox because a server certificate required to connect to the Microsoft Exchange server using SSL couldn't be validated. The mailbox has been disabled for synchronizing appointments, contacts, and tasks and the owner of the email server profile has been notified. => Email Server Error Code: Web.TrustFailure

Any help with the above issues will be much appreciated.

Wayne Walton may I seek clarification that you believe this issue is now resolved? Or did your comment mean yes, there is a problem.

    Thank you

    Hello,

I did not get a reply but I have since sought advice from elsewhere. It looks like a hybrid is only possible from On Prem 2016 onwards. If that provides you with any help I’m not sure?
